From the vineyards of Germany to the great wine regions of France, Dennis Miller’s journey into wine began long before wine culture became fashionable in Canada.
As a young Canadian driven by curiosity and adventure, Dennis traveled to Europe to immerse himself in the traditions of Old World wine. In Germany, he worked among the vineyards, learning firsthand the discipline, craftsmanship, and agricultural rhythm behind great wines. That experience led him deeper into Europe and eventually into Bordeaux, France, where he lived and worked within one of the most respected wine regions in the world. Surrounded by generations of winemakers, négociants, chefs, and café conversations that revolved around food and wine, he developed a lifelong appreciation not only for wine itself, but for the culture and philosophy surrounding it.
His journey later brought him to California, where he attended chef school and expanded his understanding of cuisine, flavor, and the relationship between food and wine. The combination of European wine education and culinary training gave Dennis a unique perspective that would later shape his approach to wine importing and retailing.
Returning home to Edmonton, Alberta, Dennis entered the wine business during a transformational time in Canadian liquor retailing. With a vision inspired by Europe’s wine shops and food culture, he helped pioneer one of the very first privately operated wine stores in Canada — introducing customers to wines, regions, and producers that many Albertans had never before experienced.
Today, Dennis Miller continues that lifelong passion by sharing wines, stories, and discoveries gathered over decades of travel, study, and hands-on experience throughout the wine world.
